Tamil Nadu's growth in its gross state domestic product (GSDP) in 2022-23 was 8.2 per cent, higher than India's annual economic growth number at 7.2 per cent. Consistently ranked among the top three economically most advanced states in India, Tamil Nadu stands out as an industrial power house.
The share of industry in Tamil Nadu's economy is over 37 per cent and the sector is growing in double digits. What appears to be driving its industrial enterprise is its Chief Minister MK Stalin’s ambitious target of making the state a $1 trillion economy by 2030, a trebling of the size of its economy from the current level of a little over $300 billion. What are the challenges that Tamil Nadu faces in achieving this ambitious target? And what are the prospects?
